Courses and Workshops

The gentle, sensory movement-based approach of somatic movement therapy is a valuable tool for counsellors, coaches and therapeutic practitioners; learning to engage empathetically with our own somatic experiences to create a deeper understanding of the mind- body connection.
Integrating somatic movement into therapeutic and healing practice enables us to offer a more attuned, responsive presence and facilitate holistic healing which addresses both the physical and mental for our clients, including those dealing with anxiety, stress, trauma or PTSD.
Introducing some fundamental tools of perception and movement, this experiential workshop will focus on methods for bringing sensory ‘somatic’ awareness and movement to ourselves, our client experience and group activities.

LINDSAY’S INVITATION
“Nothing gives me more joy than working with people to find a greater sense of ease and aliveness in their bodies, when we lose connection to our bodies, when we are no longer
able to listen to what our bodies are communicating to us, we lose ourselves. I see somatics as a radical act of reclaiming our bodies, a way of becoming fully alive, connected to ourselves and a deeper more fulfilling connection to the world around us”.
WHAT A SESSION MIGHT LOOK LIKE
The session will begin in a circle where I will guide you through simple exercises to allow your nervous system to come into a state of regulation. From this place we will then use movement, breath, awareness and posture to learn and explore our body’s innate expression and what she is communicating to us.
There will be time to share our experiences with the group, although no one is required to do anything that does not feel comfortable for them, the invitation is to be with whatever feels manageable and right for you.
There will be some refreshments towards the end of the session.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
The aim of this 6-week course is to create a sense of safety in your body/mind. If you currently feel stress, anxiety or overwhelm, you will learn ways to bring your nervous system into balance, to feel more like your true self.
You will learn how it is possible to discharge stress/ survival energy within the nervous system bringing regulation, and by using somatic movement and creative processes we uncover the unconscious material stored within our bodies.
This approach supports the integration of sensation, our bodily experience, and meaning.
What often gets lost as a result of trauma is our aliveness. Somatic Experiencing® is a highly effective way of working to bring that back.
Over time, you will come to feel your own sensations and emotions more fully. You begin to become aware of how your whole body reacts to the stresses of everyday situations, and how those reactions may lead to impairments in health and wellbeing. You will learn how to hold yourself in times of challenge and apply tools of care and kindness.
You will learn ways of easing tension and holding, in your own body, using essential somatic tools such as touch, authentic movement and creative responses (maybe drawing or journaling).
You are supported to navigate new ways of being rather than doing.
As well as guiding you into a deeper connection with your embodied process Lindsay will bring in more of the ‘educational’ piece to explain how we can understand our nervous system from the perspective of contemporary neuroscience and somatic psychology, and how we can bring regulation to our system when it is out of balance.
